A Hindu term for the belief that the entire phenomena of the physical world is illusory. Its influence can be traced to the interpretation of the Upanishads, known as the Mayavada Vedanta by Sankara. A.G.H.

We see much of this Maya element in the prevalent attitude toward sexuality.

If you want an answer on the strict lines of our philosophy, then I will say that it is because everything is illusion (Maya) outside of eternal truth, which has neither form, colour, nor limitation.

Illusion on the physical plane we call maya. On the astral plane we call it glamour. When it is on the mental plane, we call it illusion. The vast majority of us live constantly in a state of illusion, the result of not seeing reality as it is.

Such pivotal metaphysical concepts as maya and sunyatta have all too often been understood only in their negative applicationsbut this is a theme which cannot be pursued here (116).

The fractal is gnostic because it is the illusion that conceals reality, the ensnaring Maya of Vedanta. The Truth is out there (note the Platonic assumption).

The below was called maya, the illusion, the sea, the Great Void, and to symbolize it the Magi of Persia carried mirrors.
