For ages before Moses such raising of the dead was regarded by all the intelligent nations as sinful and cruel, inasmuch as it disturbs the rest of the souls and interferes with their evolutionary development into higher states.

The classic document of the Kabbalistic tradition, the Zohar, was compiled by Moses de Leon about 1290.

The early dynasties of Egypt are referred to in the Bible with the stories of King David, Joseph, King Solomon, and Moses. It is with the introduction of Moses that anointing with oils becomes very specific.

This symbol goes back to the Old Testament story of Moses leading the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. Because the Pharaoh would not let the Israelite slaves leave, God visited 10 plagues upon Egypt.

They didnąt all believe the same things, although all these ancient cultures based their collective histories upon these first five books of Moses. These were not merely Hebrew scriptures. All of Western civilization believed in this as history.

He is flanked by Elijah as the left pillar of Righteousness and Moses as the right pillar of Mercy. Beneath Him are Peter (path from Greatness), James (path from Foundation) and John (path from Victory).

The most important work of this period is the Zohar (Sefer ha-Zohar or "Book of Splendor"), written between 1280 and 1286 by the Spanish Kabbalist Moses de Leon (1250-1305), though attributed to a second century rabbi, Simeon bar Yohai.

"After he had been taught, Moses turned from receiving from above to imparting to below. First, however, he covered his face so as not to discourage the people from the Work of Unification as it came to be called.

The Zohar, or the Book of Enlightenment, was written at the end of the 13th century by Moses de Leon. Exactly where de Leon received the information that is contained in the Zohar is unknown.
