Descriptions of OBE are universal and have occurred throughout history, but there is no scientific evidence for OBE, and skeptics claim that OBE is a product of an altered state of consciousness induced by meditation, psychological stress or drugs.
This may be accompanied by a sensation of separation from bodily consciousness (similar to an out-of-body experience [OBE]), trance, or such phenomena as automatisms, mediumistic trance, healing powers, visions, and voices.
