Simulacra, in ancient Egypt, were paintings and statuettes of slaves, persons, animals, and sometimes other beings that were placed in tombs.

In it's obsession with simulacra and coded messages, as well as its almost libertarian hatred of traditional authority and the corresponding emphasis on spiritual autonomy, gnosticism anticipates cyberculture.
