Undines

THE UNDINES
As the gnomes were limited in their function to the elements of the earth, so the undines (a name given to the family of water elementals) function in the invisible, spiritual essence called humid (or liquid) ether.

The undines are truly sexual creatures, i knew it, yet had no real idea just how sexual they are. If it were not for the ritual and the charged up protection i had around me, i am afraid to say, i would not have faired so well.

They also told of the undines or WATER sprites, which inhabited rivers and streams, and of sylphs which were said to dwell in the mists above moat and moor as air spirits.

Alciones, hirundines, coturnices, coruos, cornices, capellas, cicadas, & scarabeos, cæteráque tui generis volitantia. Testudinem, pholim. tunnum, raiam, cethe, cæteráque id genus tua.

They are called by the Kabalists, Gnomes (of the Earth), Sylphs (of the Air), Salamanders (of the Fire), and Undines (of the Water), except a few of the higher kinds and their rulers. They are rather the forces of nature than ethereal men and women.

In Western traditions, Gnomes are considered Earth elementals, while Fire elementals are Salamanders, Water elementals are Undines, and Air elementals are Sprites. Spirit elementals are called Sprites.

The Neoplatonic Greeks categorized elementals according to the four elements: Earth elementals are gnomes; Air elementals are sylphs; Water elementals are undines; and Fire elementals are salamanders.

The elementals of the earth are the gnomes, ruled by the angel Ariel; the ones of the air are the sylphs, ruled by Cherub; the ones of the water are the undines, ruled by Tharsis; and there are five elementals that are salamanders, ruled by Seraph.

Personifications of the four or five "elements" of Western or Eastern occultism; in the West these are "Gnomes" for Earth, "Undines" for Water, "Sylphs" for Air, "Salamanders" for Fire, and "Sprites" for Spirit.
Elementals, Artificial ...

In mediĉval literature, these earth-spirits are often called gnomes, while the water-spirits are spoken of as undines, the air-spirits as sylphs, and the ether-spirits as salamanders.

The inhabitants of the Elements may appear on their own, as Salamanders for FIRE; Undines or Mermaids for WATER; Sylphs or Churubic-like figures for AIR; and small Gnome-like beings for EARTH.
