Yoga : or union with the soul is popularly thought of as either a series of deep breathing exercises or, perhaps a rather strange set of holding postures.

 


Yoga
An Eastern system that stresses exercise for attaining bodily and/or mental health. A yogi is someone who practices Yoga.

Yoga is the force behind the beauty and spiritual meaning of life. The word, yoga is derived from the root, yuj, which means to unite or to join together.

Yoga may then be defined as the "rational application of the laws of the unfolding of consciousness in an individual case". That is what is meant by the methods of Yoga.

The word "Yoga" comes from the root "yuj" which means "to join" and, in its spiritual sense, it is that process by which the human spirit is brought into near and conscious communion with, or is merged in, the Divine Spirit, ...

Integral Yoga - Integral/Divine Transmutation
I define Integral primarily in terms of what Sri Aurobindo referred to as Integral consciousness or Integral realisation.

Yoga -- Union of the lower nature with the higher. Different forms and techniques to gain control of the physical, astral or mental bodies.

Yoga (Sans.) A school of philosophy founded by Patanjali, but which existed as a distinct teaching and system of life long before that sage.

Yoga Sanskrit "unite". The science of union. Hatha (physical). Bhakti (devotional - astral). Karma (yoga of action). Raja ("kingly" - mental) Agni (fire - intuitive / buddhic) ...

Raja Yoga. This is the school of Pantanjali, based on the Yoga Sutras, and is the oldest as far as we can determine. It uses the will to control and effectively direct every part of an aspirant's nature towards the spiritual goal.

Yoga has two different meanings - a general meaning and a technical meaning. The general meaning is the joining together or union of any two or more things.

Yoga
Sanskrit "Divine Union". Blanket term for a number of Vedantic practices that all have the same end-result - that of liberation from the illusory world of nature by mystical attainment.

Yoga:
Yoga comes from the root word , "Yug", meaning to bind, join, attach. To join ones self to the universal Akasa or essence, is my own definition.

The gist of the story was that Reuss had shown Dotzler a peculiar yoga exercise - according to the widely-known version there was a phallic element - at the Hotel Metropole at Munich in 1906.

One could easily compare this type of practice to a theurgical form of yoga, employing a combination of postures, chants, geometrical visualizations and meditations on the essential nature of reality.
