Engravings vs. Etchings
How are they similar?
Both engravings and etchings are printmaking techniques involving drawing onto a metal plate.
Engraving is the practice of incising a design onto a hard, flat surface, by cutting grooves into it, with a burin(sharp tool).
Wood engraving
A printmaking method distinct from woodcut in that the line is incised into the woodblock, rather than the background being cut away to leave a line in relief. So it is an intaglio method.
The term 'engraving' is too often confused with that of etching.

Engraving is a process of drawing on glass by means of small copper wheels. The wheels range from 2 in. to 2 in. in diameter, and are fed with a mixture of fine emery and oil.
An engraving method related to etching but producing finely granulated tonal areas rather than lines. The term applies also to a print made by this method. There are several variants of the technique, but in essence the process is as follows.
