Figurative art is the term given to all art that is representational of figures, animals, and other natural or man-made objects. It is an art style which is strongly connected to the rules of perspective, proportion, anatomy and volume.

In England there developed a strong tradition during the eighteenth century: see: English Figurative Painting 18th/19th century. There were also a number of notable Impressionist portraits by the likes of Edouard Manet and others.

Neo-Figurative Art (1960s): painting, prints, works on paper, sculpture. This term refers to the revival Expressionist movement in the form of figurative art that emerged in the 1960s in Mexico.
