The term Intimisme refers to the small, intimate, domestic interior scenes painted by Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The style placed emphasis on color and rejected the Naturalism of the Nabis.
Intimisme or Intimism intonaco - The final layer of plaster on which a fresco is painted. intrados - The underside of an arch or a vault.
One fin de siecle Post-Impressionist group - Les Nabis - promoted a wider form of decorative art; another style, known as Intimisme, concerned itself with genre scenes of domestic, intimate interiors.
Piérre Bonnard (French, 1867-1947) and Edouard Vuillard (French, 1868-1940) were probably the best painters of the group and eventually reverted to a modified style known as Intimisme.
