Roman School In 1928 the Hungarian state established a new scholarship for young artists in the Hungarian Academy in Rome: scholarship holders stayed and worked in Italy for a year or two.

French painters were also influenced by the enduring academic tradition of the Bolognese and Roman schools, which they equated with a particular period in the 17th century, and the work of Nicolas Poussin (1596-1665).
