Anorexia nervosa and Bulimia nervosa
The eating disorders, anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, are recognised as types of psychiatric illness, and are clinically defined by a set of diagnostic criteria.

 


Anorexia Nervosa - An illness in which people don't eat enough and therefore can't stay at a healthy body weight. People with anorexia have a fear of gaining weight and sometimes think they are heavier than they really are.

ANOREXIA NERVOSA: An eating disorder characterized by an intense fear of becoming obese, a distorted body image and extreme weight loss. Metabolic abnormalities are commonly associated with this disorder and it can sometimes be fatal.

Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder adversely affect the health of millions of Americans. Experts estimate that more than 10 million women and one million men live with some disordered eating pattern.

Anorexia Nervosa
An eating disorder characterized by a distorted body image in which a person does not take in a sufficient amount of calories, eventually causing harm to the body, and sometimes death.

Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating are all considered eating disorders because they involve unhealthy patterns of eating.

Anorexia nervosa is characterized by a morbid fear of fatness that leads to drastic dieting to the point of self starvation. Bulimia is characterized by binge eating (overeating) and purging (forced vomiting).
