Just prior to ballistic movements, agonist muscles may exhibit a premovement silence (PMS) where there is little or no motor unit activity. Increased frequency of PMS may be learned; a neural adaptation to high velocity training.
Sports require ballistic movements. Think about it for a minute? What are athletes doing? Athletes are always going all out and using all of their muscle groups together and never in isolation.
Tendons also store elastic energy, which is so important in any ballistic movements such as plyometrics. The stronger the tendon is the greater is its capacity to store elastic energy. Athletes in track and field events have very powerful tendons.
Super-fast reps with ballistic movements and jerking can be harmful to muscles and connective tissues, while slow training accomplishes very little.
Gradual but regular exercise, three times a week, may start soon after delivery but it is recommend that ballistic movement, extreme stretching, heavy weight lifting and weight resistant machines should be avoided for up to three months.
Explosive exercises at their final level are often referred to as plyometric or ballistic movements.
