Circuit Training:

Many schools offer weight or circuit training as units in their gym classes. Check to see if you can sign up. Don't be afraid to ask for pointers and tips about how much weight to start with and how to develop a routine.

This could be walking, or some other form of cardio just 3 days per week, performing a couple of interval circuit training workouts at home or at the gym every 3 or 4 days.

Examples: Walking, jogging, cycling, stairs, cardio machines, swimming, and circuit training.
RESISTANCE TRAINING ...

You may decide to do circuit training or cardio exercise in between, but be aware that burning too many calories can limit muscle growth. Many people who have difficulty adding muscle mass are making the mistake of working out too much.

Short periods of high intensity training are fine when integrated into a circuit training workout or when used for athletic training. But for the average fitness enthusiast, too much intensity will only lead to soreness and burnout.

After school or work, say "game over" to the video games and TV, and take a family walk or bike ride. Shoot hoops in the driveway. Or check out the local YMCA or health club for a parent/child exercise class (such as yoga or circuit training).

MOVE YOUR BODY in the weight room - do circuit training, allowing as little time as possible (or NO time) between sets. This is an excellent way to rev up your metabolism. No more "shooting the breeze" with others. Get in, work hard, get done.

If you don't have time to exercise for an hour, try moving more vigorously for 20 minutes with activities such as sprint interval training, high intensity interval training, circuit training and Tabata.
