Concentric & Eccentric Contraction
Concentric contraction occurs when a muscle shortens in length and develops tension e.g. the upward movement of a dumbbell in a biceps curl.

Concentric Contraction An isotonic muscle contraction, where a muscle contracts or shortens.
Congestive Heart Failure The inability of the heart muscle to pump the blood at a life sustaining rate.

Concentric contraction: A contraction where the muscle shortens, such as in a bicep curl. There is movement in the joint (here, elbow) so it is called a dynamic action.

Concentric
The contraction of a muscle resulting in its shortening.
Eccentric ...

Concentric muscle action- Force produced while the muscle is shortening in length.

Concentric Action (shortening)
The force produced by the muscle is greater than the external resistance; therefore the muscle is able to shorten while overcoming the external load.

Concentric Contraction: The contraction of muscle during an exercise.
Cool Down: A gradual slow down of the body after exercise involving light stretching or training.
Core: The center of an object.

Concentric Muscle Action
The muscle shortens while contracting against resistance.
Continuous Duty Horsepower
The maximum hp the motor can produce continuously. Continuous duty ratings are based on motor temperature limitations.

Concentric - The lifting phase of an exercise, when the muscle shortens or contracts. For example in a bicep curl when you pull the weight up you're in the "positive" or concentric part of the movement.
Cooche Lift - Lifting like a sissygirl ...

concentric contraction This is a contraction in which the muscle decreases in length (shortens) against an opposing load, such as lifting a weight up.

Concentric contractions have been shown to activate more muscle fibres in general however in the eccentric phase more fast twitch fibres are recruited not slow twitch.

1) Concentric Strength: the ability to overcome a resistance through muscular contraction, i.e., the muscle shortens as it develops tension.

L Laterals Concentric + Side Laterals Eccentric
A vital notion that you must understand is that the body can handle heavier poundages on the negative, than it can on the positive portion of the rep. This exercise takes advantage of this! ...

Concentric contraction [back to top] A contraction in which the muscle shortens and works against gravity. Contralateral [back to top] "The opposite side".

does all or most of the concentric part and then you concentrate all your energy on lowering the weight.

Normally, we only lift what we're capable of moving concentrically. In negative training, we handle a lot more weight. Most bodybuilders can control approximately 130% of their concentric maximum on the eccentric phase of a lift.

The lifting or shortening action is the concentric phase; the lowering or lengthening action is the eccentric phase. To make this exercise eccentrically-based, you would lift (1 second), hold (1 second) and lower in 4 to 6 seconds.

Wait - I thought we were concentrically contracting the biceps? That is correct, and if you are using the bicep curl machine, that is pretty much ALL you are doing. For one, you are sitting down.

The key to the entire workout is to engage as many muscle fibers as possible, and taking your time on both concentric and eccentric phases of each repetition will accomplish just that.

The muscles involved in the concentric contraction of any exercise are commonly referred to as the 'muscles worked.' The quadriceps and gluteus muscles are the primary muscles targeted when performing a squat.

Each weight lifting exercise includes a concentric and an eccentric movement. The particularity of hydraulic circuit training equipment is that the eccentric movement is missing, and thus, the exercises are double-concentric.

A reasonable training pace is one to two seconds for the lifting (concentric) portion of the exercise and three to four seconds for the lowering (eccentric) portion of the move. Fast, jerky movements should be avoided.

This is where you can no longer push the weight up in a concentric motion, but you are still able to lower the weight and exert an upward force against the weight.

Much emphasis is placed on the concentric phase of a lift where the muscle shortens as it contracts.

- Concentric: The shortening of muscle fibers during the lifting portion of the exercise (e.g., lifting a dumbbell during a biceps curl).
- Eccentric: The lengthening of muscle fibers during the lowering portion of an exercise (e.g.

Each rep should last 3 seconds on the concentric contraction and 3 seconds on the eccentric contraction (3 seconds down and 3 seconds up) with a normal breathing pattern.

The partner assists the athlete to perform another 2-3 repetitions concentricaly but provides some resistance for the eccentric segment of contraction for each of the additional repetitions.

It is, in a sense, the purest single event test of strength because it is one of the few lifts of dead weight (weight lying on the ground). In most other lifts there is an eccentric (lowering the weight) phase followed by the concentric (lifting the ...

The quads are used constantly in downhill skiing isometrically, eccentrically and concentrically. To preserve the integrity of the knee, the quads should be strengthened.

Repetition or "rep" - One complete exercise that includes both concentric and eccentric movements.

We recommend active assisted strength exercises in which the client moves into a position of full concentric muscle contraction (with partner's assistance), maintains a brief isometric muscle contraction (without partner's assistance), ...

Abbreviation for repetitions. One complete exercise that includes both concentric and eccentric movements.

People who have their gallbladder surgically removed still eliminate plenty of green, bile-coated stones with our liver cleanse, and anyone who cares to dissect their stones can see that the concentric circles and crystals of cholesterol match ...

Try to breath out during the concentric phase (when lifting the weight) and in during the eccentric phase (when lowering the weight). Exercise only in your full range of motion.

If you want to train the latissimus dorsi muscle, but you're not strong enough to do chin ups, the wide grip front pulldown produces the greatest muscle activity during both the concentric and eccentric phases of the movement.

In addition to each anatomy diagram of human body muscles you will find information about the structure and functions of major skeletal muscles in the human body. In addition to origin and insertion, you will find concentric, ...

Just like in real life, when we move, we accelerate, stabilize, and decelerate parts of our body using concentric, isometric, and eccentric contractions. Just like all exercise, FT stays within the body's biomechanical limits.

The footwear you choose should allow free movements of your body parts, because aerobic exercises require the body to perform concentric movements.
