Emotional eating is when people use food as a way to deal with feelings instead of to satisfy hunger. We've all been there, finishing a whole bag of chips out of boredom or downing cookie after cookie while cramming for a big test.

 


Emotional Eating - Some people retort stress or depression by eating excessively. Sources of stress may not be always evident, but may still influence eating habits and cause weight gain.

8. Emotional Eating
Food can evoke both good and bad emotions and it is also a go-to when women feel anxious, depressed, angry, sad, or even elated. Women experience a variety of psychological attachments to different foods.

A journal can help you spot emotional eating, it can show you if your workouts are helping you get stronger, and generally tracks whether you're eating healthy or not. The one thing a journal doesn't do is calculate your calories and percentages.

I was stuck in a cycle of emotional eating; stuffing my face, feeling guilty about it, and stuffing it some more to quiet the guilt, feeling guilty about that, and just giving up.

"Emotional eating is at the core of bad eating choices," says N.Y.C. psychotherapist Elizabeth Fagan, C.S.W. If you often find yourself eating when you feel down, or if you feel happier after a meal, that may signify a problem.
