Erector Spinae Weakness
Increased risk of lower back injury during lumbar spine extension or stabilization activities.

The erector spinae muscles of the lower back are like two thick columns of muscle on either side of your spinal column. The spinal erectors run from the base of your pelvis to almost the full length of your spine.

The Erector Spinae is a group of muscles responsible for extension of the spine. They run up the middle of the back from the sacrum and iliac crest to the transverse processes of all ribs.

Low back - The erector spinae muscles extend the back and aid in good posture. Exercises include the back extension machine and prone back extension exercises. These muscles also come into play during the squat and dead lift.

Lastly we have the erector spinae which is basically the lower back musculature. This area extends from the top of the glutes up to the traps.

The deadlift is a compound movement that works grip strength, and the primary muscles used in the deadlift are the erector spinae, the gluteus maximus, adductor magnus, hamstrings and the soleus.

Erector Spinae (lower back muscles).
Strengthen weak muscles that contribute to lower back pain:
Abdominal muscles.
Lower back muscles.
Use slow and controlled static stretching. Avoid bouncy or ballistic methods of stretching.

Weak abs can contribute to lower back problems; the abdominal muscles help to improve the Erector Spinae by improving the mechanical positioning of the pelvis when it's tilted forward.

The problem with running is that it can work your hip flexors and erector spinae (your lower back muscles) to a greater degree than your abs, If you don't make an effort to stretch these areas, you could develop an imbalance, ...

What it hits: transversus abdominis (deep abs) and erector spinae (lower back)
Start facedown on the floor, with your arms and legs extended out front. Raise your head, your left arm, and right leg about five inches off the floor.

Back extension is a combination of not only the erector spinae but of the gluteals, hamstrings and the fine intrinsic muscles of the spine. All of these muscles are extremely functional especially for sport and therefore need to be focused on.

One group, called the erector spinae, attaches to your spinal column at different points along your back, allowing you to bend it forward and backward and from side to side.
