Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) -- Signs and symptoms: double vision, fatigue, excessive hunger, tremors, increased pulse rate, nervousness, headache, numbness, slurred speech, excessive sweating.

Do not inject insulin into the muscle groups that will be used during the exercise session because the insulin will be absorbed too quickly, and may result in hypoglycemia or low blood sugar.

Long before I competed, I watched carefully what I ate because I was diagnosed with severe reactive hypoglycemia. For the most part, my family really supports me when it comes to eating clean and enjoys a lot of the recipes I make.

High glucose and insulin concentrations in the bloodstream are not desirable because they promote fat storage and rebound hypoglycemia. By combining foods properly with each meal, you effectively control blood sugar and insulin.

While insulin is an anabolic hormone, it is also a fat producing hormone, and when too much insulin is secreted it can't be used properly. A constant supply of too much sugar will result in insulin sensitivity, borderline hypoglycemia, and fat gain.

Used in "sugar free" products because of their slow absorbtion rate (important for diabetics and those with hypoglycemia), they still contain calories and count as carbohydrates.
