The pectoralis major muscle does the following:
Abducts the arm at the shoulder.This means that the pectoralis major muscle moves the upper arm away from the vertical midline of the body (i.e. the action of raising your arms to the side).

Pectoralis Major - Is the large fan shaped muscle that is located on the front of the chest. It originates from both the sternum (breast bone) and the clavicle and inserts into the humerus.

Pectoralis major - Large fan shaped muscle that covers the front of the upper chest. Exercises include push-ups, pull-ups, regular and incline bench press, and the pec deck machine.

Pectoralis major - Flexes, adducts and rotates arm medially
Latissimus dorsi - Extends, adducts and rotates arm medially. Moves arm downward and backwards

Attachments: it starts in the center of the chest and attaches to the humerus (the upper bone of the arm)
Action: horizontal adduction of the arm (bringing your upper arms together in front of your body).

- Activity in the pectoralis major was greatest during the close grip lat pulldown, followed by the underhand front pulldown, then the wide grip front pulldown. The wide grip rear pulldown produced the least muscle activity in the chest.

Pectorals (Pecs) - These are the chest muscles, the biggest of which is the large fan-shaped muscle across your chest (Pectoralis Major).

As an example, if the practitioner were to find that the clients pectoralis major clavicular [a chest muscle] had an imbalance, the practitioner would think of the stomach meridian due to its association with this muscle.

The pectoralis major covers the chest from the top of the arm to the collarbone, down to the sternum and upper 6 ribs. The smaller pectoralis minor is located underneath, and runs from mid-chest to shoulder blade.

The primary muscles used in the bench press are the chest (pectoralis major), shoulders (deltoids), and back of the arms (triceps).

Upper chest muscles attached to the front of the chest wall and extending to the upper arms and under the breast area. They are divided into the pectoralis major and the pectoralis minor muscles.
