Saturated fats can further be broken down, depending on the number of carbon atoms in the molecule. Let's examine the four that are most commonly presented in the different types of animal fat: lauric acid, myristic acid, palmic acid and stearic acid.

 


Saturated fats are the bad fats. They are found in animal products. Whole milk, cheese, beef and ham are all high in saturated fat. The liver produces cholesterol from saturated fat.

These occur mainly in animal foods and are hard at room temperature. They can be synthesised by the body These include meat, dairy products, coconut and palm oil. These are converted into LDL-cholesterol.

Saturated fat is only part of the problem
Saturated fat is the type of fat found primarily in animal-based foods, such as red meat, butter and cream, and some plant oils, like cocoa butter and palm oil.

Saturated fats - These are 4bad" fats. They are called saturated because they contain no open spots on their carbon skeletons. These bad fats have been shown to raise cholesterol levels in the body.
