Spot Reducing
A popular but false assumption that an individual can "burn" fat only in desired areas. Fat is not reduced selectively from exercised areas, but rather from total fat stored throughout the body.

Dubbed 'spot reducing,' doing specialized exercises, such as sit ups or leg raises, can tone up specific areas of muscles, but unfortunately, these exercises cannot shift local areas of fat.

There is no such thing as spot reducing! You can do a million crunches, but until you get the fat off of the top of your abs, you will never see them.

There's no such thing as spot reducing -- that is, you can't magically zap the fat from an area by exercising it.

Women who lift weights will get bulky muscles.
Spot reducing is possible.
No pain, no gain.
Exercise requires a hefty time commitment.
If you exercise, you can eat whatever you want.
There's a magic bullet (quick fix) out there somewhere.

Although some old fitness fictions, such as "no pain, no gain" and "spot reducing" are fading fast, plenty of popular exercise misconceptions still exist.

Fancy and expensive ab-machines won't get rid of belly fat. Most the ab-gadgets marketed focus on spot reducing, suggesting to the consumer that all they need to do is use their "state-of-the-art" ab-device and they will get rock hard abs.
