The triceps brachii muscle does the following:
Extends the arm at the elbow. This means that the triceps brachii muscle straightens the elbow joint such that there is an increase in the angle between the forearm and the upper arm.

Triceps Brachii
Location: Back portion of the upper arm between the elbow and the shoulder.
Function: Extension of the elbow.
Exercises: Lying tricep press and close grip bench press.

Triceps brachii
The Triceps are used in the final phase of the poling pushoff as the arm is extended behind the body, and through forceful elbow extension a final push is applied before recovery for the next stroke.

The Triceps brachii muscle is made up of three individual heads, the Long head, Lateral head and Medial head. While they all have different origins they all have the same insertion, which is the elbow. Their prime movement is extension of the elbow.

Muscles - Triceps Brachii
Sit on a flat bench with feet flat on the floor
Grasp a dumbbell with an overhand grip (palms are facing forward throughout the entire movement)
Hold the dumbbell overhead with the arm fully extended ...

ARMS - TRICEPS BRACHII (TRIS)
The Triceps cross two joints, running from the scapulae and humerous to the radius. Triceps Brachii is composed of three heads.

Handstand pushups increase the load on the triceps brachii muscles significantly over regular pushups, with the arms having to hold almost 100% of the body's weight rather than an average of 60% during normal pushups.
