How to Winter Water Lilies
Winter care for water lilies varies depending on whether the types you are growing in.

Spring algae bloom occurs when the temperature warms and the pond receives increased sunlight. Do not be alarmed. At this time, the nitrogen produced by the fish is merely greater than that being used by the plants.

Planktonic algae blooms are responsible for imparting a "pea-green" color to many ornamental ponds when there is an excess of nutrients and direct sunlight.

The nitrate form of nitrogen (NO3) can move with the soil water and contribute to pollution and algae blooms; it is of greatest concern in water quality.
