Any of the alternative forms of a gene that may occur at a given locus, one provided by each parent and determining charateristics such as eye color.

allele search for term- n. (Gr. allelon, one another) one of a pair or more of alternative hereditary characters; a gene which can occupy the same locus as another gene in a particular chromosome.

Allele- One of an array of genes possible at a certain position (locus) on a given chromosome.
Allelopathy- The influence of plants, other than microorganisms, upon each other, arising from the products of their metabolism.
