Division - Angiosperm (Flowering plants). Division is the broadest way of dividing plants. Flowers, or the sexual reproductive parts of a plant, are the fingerprints of plant classification since they are the most stable, unchanging part of the plant.

About 75 percent of all the seed-bearing plants on earth today are not gymnosperms, but rather angiosperms. All angiosperms produce flowers, which botanists define as shoots, modified for reproduction.

The two large divisions in the plant species are flowering plants, angiosperms, or plants with cones, gymnosperms. All other states have flowers for their actual state flower, but Maine decided to be a little different.

Monocot A plant of the angiosperm group having one cotyledon.
