Gardening AphidApical bud

apical (adj. apically)
1. Borne at the tip of an organ, farthest from the point of attachment, e.g., a bud which terminates a stem. 2. Describes the cells composing the apex of the leaf.

Apical meristems contain several layers. Depending upon the type of plant, the number of layers varies. The tunica is the outermost layer with the innermost layers being the corpus.

apical meristem -- Group of cells at the growing tip of a branch or root. It divides cells to create new tissues.
archegonium -- The organ on a gametophyte plant which produces the egg cell, and nurtures the young sporophyte.

apical search for term- a. (L. apex, the tip or top of a thing) at the tip or summit.

Apical: See terminal.
Aquatic: Plants that grow in water whether floating or rooted in a pond or other water.

apical dominance. Growth of the bud at the apex of a stem or tuber while growth of all other buds on the stem or tuber is inhibited.

Apical meristem - Meristems located at the terminal shoot of a plant, the points at which upward growth happens.
Apoplast - A route of transport within a plant consisting of the extra cellular space made up of cell walls.

APICAL -- At the tip of a branch.
AQUATIC -- Plant which grows partially or completely in water.
AREOLE -- A small well-defined area, usually hairy and cushion-like, found on the stem of cacti. From them arise spinesorglochids.

Apical Describes the apex or tip.
Apiculate Ending in an abrupt pointed tip.
Apomixis process of producing viable seed without fertilization ...

apical bud A bud at the tip of a stem.
apical dominance The inhibition of lateral bud growth by the presence of the hormone auxin in a plant's terminal bud.

APICAL - At the tip of a branch.
AQUATIC PLANTS - Plants which grow in, live in, or live on the water.
ARBOR- A structure used in the garden to support vines of all sorts for a walkway or just a focal point. A grape arbor, for example.

The potency of apical dominance not only varies from one species to another but is influenced by orientation: Lateral buds on horizontal branches are less restrained by the apical bud, while lateral buds on vertical growth are strongly suppressed.

Terminal bud A plant's apical bud. Terrarium A partly or entirely closed glass container used to house a collection of indoor plants.

One of the best things you can do for your herbs is to trim the top bud, or apical meristem. This will cause the plant to bush out more and produce more leaves. It will also limit the height of the herb.

The bud at the tip of every branch is the dominant bud, having what is referred to as 'apical dominance.' As long as a branch remains intact, the apical bud will grow steadily in a single burst.

In the woody ornamentals class, we learned about apical dominance (how the terminal bud of a shoot inhibits the growth of side buds), the significance of good drainage, and proper pH levels.

Cut a bud from the budstick while holding the apical end of the budstick away from you. Start the cut about 1 cm (0.5 inch) above the bud and finish a little less distance below the bud.

There are both apical and axillary meristems.
micro-climate - Variations of the climate within a given area, usually influenced by hills, hollows, structures or proximity to bodies of water.

The apical branches can be pruned out, leaving two leaders in a fork that can also be trained along an upper wire. This will give the tree a lovely wall-like appearance and the fruit will be easy to pick.

The plant has ash colored bark covered with white fuzz. Calotropis procera has silver-green large leaves that grow opposite on the stems. The flowers grow at the tops of apical stems and produce fruits.
