Bacterial soft rot
One of the major problems that iris borer introduces to the leaves and rhizomes is bacterial soft rot (Pecotobacterium carotovorum). Rhizomes become soft, mushy and have an offensive odor.

Chinese cabbage is prone to soil diseases such as club root and bacterial soft rot. Protect the crop by applying lime to your soil in the off season, and rotate this vegetable with unrelated crop several times over a few years.

Bearded iris plants perform best in fertile, well-draining soil in areas with full sun. Their blooming is poor when given too much shade and poor draining can lead to bacterial soft rot.
