Benomyl

Gardening Beneficial predatorBentgrass

Moisten soil with fungicide solution of benomyl or captan. This is to prevent fungal infections. Allow soil to drain. Cut healthy leaves from the center of the mother plant with a stem 1 1/2 to 2 inches long.

Use chemical sprays such as Benomyl (systemic fungicide), sulfur/fungicidal soap early in the growing season as a preventative or as soon as symptoms appear. A synthetic fungicide Baylaton sold as Strike also works well on mildew.

It is adviseabe to then redrench the mix with solution of Benomyl fungicide (usually 1/2 teaspoon per gallon per lable directions) of water to prevent 'damping off' disease.

I have seen powdery mildew, but this is easily controlled with benomyl, oil or lime sulfur (the latter two will discolor blossoms).

Known as powdery mildew, this is a fungal disease that covers leaves, stems and buds with wind spread white powder. It makes the leaves curl and turn purple. Spray with Funginex or Benomyl to treat this fungal disease.

New shoots will soon appear at or below the soil line. At worst this therapeutic pruning will delay your flower display. Its very seldom that clematis wilt destroys a whole plant. If the problem persists the use of the fungicide benomyl will help.
