Biotechnology-A scientific process by which living things (usually plants or animals) are genetically engineered.

Aside from the politics, capitalism and biotechnology arguments that are making the news, the bottom line reason for saving seeds is because you have a plant you love and want to grow again.

Organic Consumers Association - a grassroots nonprofit organization concerned with food safety, organic farming, sustainable agricultural, fair trade and genetic engineering (biotech, bio-tech, biotechnology, transgenic).

Based on this process, biotechnology labs are developing artificially transgenic plants by selecting certain genes, in order to make them pest-free, dry-tolerating, faster growing, or just tougher than the original species.

It's a serious scientific institution devoted to education. The University of Montreal's Plant Biology Research Institute is affiliated with the garden, and research is carried on in plant genetics, ecology, biotechnology and other plant fields.
