When it comes to bird netting for fruit trees, you want to use about 5/8 inch netting. This can prevent the birds from even reaching the fruits as they ripen.

Plastic/Shadecloth/Bird netting Covers
Make a framework of stakes around the plants that you want to protect, and place over this a shadecloth/plastic or bird netting cover.

Cover your containers with bird netting. Because small flower and vegetable seed are barely covered with soil, you may have to protect against foraging birds who strike when most folks are still asleep or eating their own breakfasts.

Drape the bird netting over these arches and secure all edges, making sure there are no openings. Remove the netting before your sweet peas get tall enough to attach themselves to it.
