Symptoms: Young twigs and branches that die back, starting at tip ends; leaves shrivel and turn brown; twig tips curl, resembling a hook.
Offender: This bacterial disease is common on ornamental pears, crabapples and quinces.

Late Blight Fungus
Late blight fungus was noticed in the Irish crop as early as the 1820s, but it wasn't a serious problem until 1845. That year the blight wiped out the crop nationwide -- about 900,000 acres altogether.

Fire blight A bacteria that, true to its name, makes a branch look like it's been burnt with a blow torch.

Bud blight - a withering condition that attacks flower buds.

Early blight
Symptom: The foliage has irregular, dark brown spots each with concentric dark rings inside, giving them a somewhat bull's-eye appearance. The spots become surrounded by yellow tissue.

Avoid Blight. Gather fallen camellia blossoms to prevent the spread of camellia petal blight.

Blight-resistant potato `Red Cloud' produces high yields of medium-size tubers; it's good for both baking and boiling. The Cook's Garden will sell it as well as `Golden Roma,' a flat-podded, golden bush bean.

Leaf spot and blight are the most common disease problems. As with most plants, blights occur most frequently in wet weather and should be treated early with fungicide. Bacteria can also cause rotting in the center of the stalk.

Late blight of potato is the fungal disease that contributed greatly to the Irish potato famine of the 1840s-50s, rotting entire crops in the field or in storage.

Blight and purple blotch, as well as certain insects, can leave lesions and cause discoloration to the plants' leaves. The former two ailments are usually caused by too much exposure to moisture, such as excessive rainfall in warm weather.

While the list of diseases (wilt, blight, leafspot, rust) and pests (rose chafer, scale, mites and nematodes) seems daunting, I would tell you I have never actually seen any of these, and don't expect to.

Good for potato blight, leaf moulds, tomato blight and rusts also. Using a mixture of copper sulfate and hydrated lime you spray it on your plants before any fungi starts growing.

Fungi, rots, and blights also can affect impatiens. Keep soil moist, but not soggy or squishy, to avoid these, and if you see any spots, rot or blight symptoms, remove and discard the dead, ...

"Blight" causes brown flecks in the leaves, and often turns the plant gray after a few weeks. Flowers with blight will "burst," or become limp and develop stripes and spots of brown and gray.

Potato beetles, Japanese beetles, earwigs, slugs, black spot, mildew and blight are just a few of the garden scourges of late summer. I do what I can to keep up, hand-picking the beetles and trying to ignore the disease problems.

Beware: The constant hydration necessary during the early weeks of installation may encourage fungal diseases such as Pythium blight. This disease is also known as cotton blight or grease spot.

Most Solanaceae family members are prone to fungal disease such as blight. Many of the vegetables are susceptible to soil borne fungal disease such as Phytophthora, Verticillium or Fusarium. For this reason it is important to rotate crops.

Bulb plants are hardy and rarely affected by disease; however, blight and fungus can occur especially if bulbs are planted in loam soils.

However, if you are unfortunate enough to get plagued by insect pests, such as carrot rust flies or wireworms, or have diseases such as Cercospora blight strike your crop, it won't seem that way.

If you're in a gardening climate that is high in humidity, you may see blight (a fungus infestation).
Remember, don't compost or recycle infected plants. Remove them immediately from your garden and dispose of them.

Potatoes (and tomatoes) need to be grown on different soil each year as tubers left in the ground can spread blight, scab and eelworm. They need plenty of fertiliser but no lime.

also serves as a great reminder to direct the stream of water at the soil and not up into the air or on the leaves of your plants. Watering this way creates excess humidity around dense foliage - the perfect breeding ground for fungus and blight.
