Bow Saw
This saw is perfect for removing dead tree branches and pruning large bushes. Resembling a hunter's bow, the single C-shaped frame and handle design provides proven stability. The replaceable steel blade ranges in size from 21 to 36 inches.

Hedge shears are used to trim or shape shrubs. Try to find a pair that has one straight blade and one serrated blade.

A bow saw has huge teeth and is useful for cutting large branches and logs, but is problematic because its curved handle or bow gets caught in confined spaces and makes it difficult to manoeuvre.

For homeowners a folding pruning saw will handle most jobs up to 2" and larger stuff should be tackled with a bow saw (up to 8").

Bow saws are provided to help you cut down your own tree, or you may enlist one of the farm staff to cut down the tree for you.

Densely rooted plants require cutting the root system open. This can be done with a sharp saw, by two people and a bow saw or even with an ax. These methods should all be undertaken with extreme caution.

For larger limbs, you'll most likely require a pruning saw. Straight-bladed and bow saws cut on both the push and the pull strokes and make quick work of limbs up to 3 inches in diameter. For larger limbs, consider a power-reciprocating saw.

While you're at it, it's a good idea to remove the thick, older branches within the interior of the plant. This may require the use of heavy-duty loppers or a bow saw. Doing so will result in a more vigorous shrub.

If you have lots of high branches to prune and don't like using ladders, then a long-handled, telescopic pruner could be useful. For branches thicker than 5cm, use a bow saw or hand-held pruning saw - these are fairly compact and useful among ...
