Growing broad beans
Broad beans are an ancient favourite with evidence of cultivation from as early as 6,000 BC. Easy to grow, high in protein and rich in vitamin C they're still a must for today's vegetable plot.

Broad beans, or fava beans, have long and flat seeds that are stripped from the pods and eaten. The relon broad bean variety is prized for its large pods that have up to ten beans inside. They grow on four foot vines and have pods over a foot long.
Broad Beans also thrive through the coldest months of winter. If you live in Queensland or a sub tropical area Bush Beans will be being planted instead. If you live in an area where there is no frost at all, peas can be planted.

Also it's a good time to plant Broad Beans, Leeks, Onions and potatoes (if they have multiple sprouts on them you can cut them into two before planting).
An odd relative that deserves more attention is broad bean (also called fava or faba), which also likes cool weather. But don't think that all beans fit in this growing season - common beans are strictly warm-season vegetables.
Get those seeds out of the greenhouse and into drilled holes in the veggie patch. Sow vegetables, such as broad beans, early peas, carrots, spinach, beetroot and leeks when spring is in the air.
