Broadleaf Weed Control - Step 1
Identify the broadleaf weed in your lawn. If hand-pulling isn't an option for you, use a chemical control that specifically lists that species on the label.

 


Broadleaf weeds such as dandelions, clover and spurge can make a lawn look unkempt. The weeds also consume water and fertilizer intended for the lawn.

Broadleaf Plantain
Broadleaf plantain appears in compacted soil and anywhere grass has a hard time growing.

Broadleaf weeds are just right for killing in the fall after rains come and temperatures cool. They take the herbicide down into their roots as they pull down nourishment for winter.

* Broadleaf herbicides work but will kill any neighboring plants. Usually poison ivy is intertwined among plants that you want to keep, including trees.

This broadleaf evergreen plant grows easily and periwinkle care most often involves keeping the prolific spreader in check. Periwinkle, once established, is drought resistant and needs little other care if properly sited in the landscape.

Most broadleaf evergreens and deciduous plants root best during the softwood or semihardwood stage of growth. Cuttings of these plants may be made from mid May until mid July and usually root successfully. Cuttings 4 to 6 inches long are best.

Watering in the fall, before the ground freezes, is important for box, azalea, rhododendron, mountain laurel and broadleaf evergreen shrubs, whose leaves lose moisture in winter.
