Lime is also called burnt lime, calyx, fluxing lime, quick lime or unslaked lime. Add a definition to this term Return to the Gardenology homepage ...
When cooled it's called quicklime or burnt lime. It is chemically unstable - if water is added it will heat, swell, crack and sizzle as it transforms itself into a stable condition. It is then known as slaked, hydrated or wetted lime.
