Centifolia: Also called the cabbage rose, these roses have 100 or more petals per bloom. They're a cross between Damasks and Albas.

 


It is a vigorous climber with flowers like an old-fashioned cabbage rose. They are large and full with over 40 petals, opening to disclose a muddle of unfolded petals. The basic colour is creamy white, suffused with pink and carmine.

Notes: Dense, double blossoms with a wonderful rich fragrance.

Choose fragrant, old-fashioned varieties such as Damask or cabbage roses. You should also include shrub roses and at least one climbing variety.

Pre-China Roses
These are the roses grown in Europe before the everblooming roses arrived from China, around 1800. These include Gallicas, Damasks, Albas, Centifolias (Cabbage roses) and Moss roses.
