Canopy- The more or less continuous cover of branches and foliage formed collectively by the crowns of adjacent trees.

Experts know how to use various design techniques including up lighting, shadowing, moonlighting and silhouetting to achieve specific effects when lighting a canopy of trees, statues, gazebos, water fountains and plants.
Use indirect lighting.

The simplest method is to visually inspect the turf by spreading the canopy. Chinch bug nymphs tend to hide in the deeper thatch and careful inspection is necessary. Unfortunately, eggs and small chinch bugs are easily missed using this technique.

It grows under low light conditions in the rain forest canopy in Southeast Asia which makes it an ideal plant for the office, or room with little sun. It is used in the Feng Shui system as green is a lucky color attracting positive chi.

If you plan on planting a tree where it will shade the yard, choose one with a more open canopy that will cast only mottled shade.
If the shade is due to a fence, replace it with one that lets more sun through, at least through the upper section.

Building and protecting your soil: The roots and leaf canopy of cover crops help prevent soil erosion. The biomass produced by the crop helps to build your soil's organic matter.

If you have a long, thin garden, it is important that it is structured well to avoid the feeling that you are standing in a tunnel, especially if the garden has high boundaries or is overshadowed by a canopy of trees.

Pruning a tree's canopy and its lower 8 to 10 feet of limbs will allow more sunlight to reach the ground, but it may be destructive to the tree or spoil its natural appearance.
