Capsule - dehiscent fruit composed of two or more carpels, generally with several or many seeds in each carpel, as in Gossypium spp. (cotton).

In the center of most flowers is one or more carpels, the "female" reproductive organs. Carpels bear ovules, which are structures with the potential to develop into seeds. The carples of a flower may be separate or fused into a single structure.

Inside the two outer rows of rounded petals is a center of loose pale yellow petalodes fading to white at tips, nestling a set of bright green carpels.

They also have prominent stamens (male reproductive organ) and central carpels (female reproductive organ). The fluffy feathery seed heads are also very decorative and give rise to its European common name of "Old Man's Beard".
