The cicadas sing when it gets to the troppo season in the north. It is so hot. The temperature hovers around 40 degrees C and the humidity is around 80 percent. All of the annuals that have kept colour in the garden through the dry season are wilting.
Pear psylla adults (Fig. 1 and Fig. 2) resemble very small cicadas and there are two forms. The overwintering adults are dark reddish brown in color and are slightly larger (2.12 mm) than the tan to light brown colored summer adults (1.95 mm).
I'm not sure if the yellow jackets are doing us any favors by decreasing the cicada population (I love cicadas) but unfortunately like spiders, they aren't very discriminating.
