Ciliate with glands or scales rather than fine hairs. Frond A leaf, once applied only to the leaves of ferns but now also said of the leaves of palms too.

Ciliate With short fine hairs as on a leaf or petal margin. Clasping A stalkless leaf, with the base partly surrounding the stem. Claw The constricted petiole-like base of petals and sepals of some flowers.

Margins or edges of leaves can be smooth, curved downward, or rolled inward--"revolute," wavy or "sinuate," hairy or "ciliate," or toothed with various indentations.
