Compound Leaf - A leaf with more than one blade. All blades are attached to a single leafstem. Where the leafstem attaches to the twig there is a bud.
Conifer - A cone-bearing tree.
Deciduous - Shedding all leaves annually.

COMPOUND LEAF -- A leaf made up or two or more leaflets attached to the leaf stalk; e.g Schefflera.

Compound leaf A leaf of two or more leaflets, in some cases the lateral leaflets may have been lost and only the terminal leaflet remain.
Compressed Flattened from the sides, as applied to nodes or buds.

conifer A cone-bearing tree or shrub, usually evergreen. Pine, spruce, fir, cedar, yew, and juniper are examples.

A compound leaf with leaflets arrange either alternately or in pairs on a central axis.

So when you first pick up a leaf determine if you are looking at a single leaf or a compound leaf. A single leaf is as it sounds - just one on a single stem. A compound leaf features smaller leaflets branching out from the stem.

Leaflet: A sub-division of a compound leaf.
Leggy: Weak, tall growth on a plant, sometimes caused by keeping a plant in too warm conditions too long.
Legume: Dehiscent fruit that splits into two when mature.

A palmate leaf is a compound leaf that is divided into leaflets whose stems emanate from a single central point. Esamples are horse chestnuts and buckeyes.

Five-leaf akebia gets its name from its compound leaf. (A compound leaf has more than one blade, and in this plant's case it has five.)

LEGGY: Abnormally tall and spindly growth.

Foliage is dark green with opposite, pinnately compound leaflets (5 go 13) that are 2½ to 4 inches long and ovate to lanceolate.
