Conservation tillage-A land cultivation method used to prepare soil for planting. It leaves some plant residues on the soil surface for erosion control and moisture conservation, instead of plowing them into the soil.

An alternative to standard procedures is minimum-till gardening, also known as conservation tillage. This method is ideal for transplants to the vegetable garden. In the fall, prepare the soil for cover crop seed by tilling under summer crop wastes.
