They are egg laying, diurnal and eat insects and some fruit. Geckos are the second largest family after skinks. They are small, nocturnal reptiles that emerge at dusk to hunt for insects. Four of the 100 species are found in Sydney.

This species is diurnal in habit, at its most active in the heat of the day, and is often seen basking in the sun on fallen trees or logs. The flatheaded appletree borer is a very active insect that runs rapidly and flies readily when disturbed.

A few adult species are primarily nocturnal, but most don't have a distinct diet or activity cycle and are known as diurnal. The adult are ½ to 1 inch long, with slender bodies and wide heads.
