Dolomitic limestone

DOLOMITIC LIMESTONE -- Sometimes used when 'liming' soil that has an acid pH level that is too high. As it contains calcium and magnesium carbonate it should be used only with soils that are also deficient in magnesium as well.

Add dolomitic limestone to raise pH and "sweeten" acidic soil.
Like most gardeners, I spend a lot of time adding organic materials, such as compost, to my soil.

The preferred type for most gardens, dolomitic limestone, enriches the soil with the plant nutrients calcium and magnesium while raising the soil pH.

Mix in some dolomitic limestone, at the rate of five pounds per cubic yard of mix. It's important to incorporate the lime thoroughly through the mix.

Regular dolomitic limestone--the stuff you put on your lawn--works great, but it takes six months to provide any benefit to the soil.

We have agricultural lime and dolomitic limestone. Agricultural lime is much stronger so only use half as much. Use about four litres of agricultural lime (so if you use dolomite, use twice as much).

You can add dolomitic limestone to highly acidic soil, for example, to raise its pH, or work sulfur into highly alkaline soils to lower the pH.

Dolomitic limestone contains calcium and magnesium carbonate, so it should be reserved for acidic soils low in magnesium. Most gardeners use calcitic limestone to lower the pH levels in soils, it supplies necessary calcium as well.

Dolomitic limestone adds calcium and magnesium as it increases pH, making the soil more alkaline. Elemental sulfur will acidify soil.

The most common way to raise the pH of your soil (make it less acidic) is to add powdered limestone. Dolomitic limestone will also add manganese to the soil. Apply it in the fall because it takes several months to alter the pH.

Dolomite-A natural material used for liming soils in areas where both magnesium and calcium are needed. Made by grinding dolomitic limestone, which contains magnesium carbonate, MgCO3, and calcium carbonate, CaCO3.

The most common way to raise the pH of soil is to add pulverized limestone to the soil. Limestone acts as a soil acid neutralizer and consists of either calcium and magnesium carbonate or calcium carbonate. These are called dolomitic limestone and ...

Buy a commercial planting mix or make your own from equal parts of compost, pulverized pine or fir bark, and perlite or vermiculite. For each cubic foot of mix add 4 ounces of dolomitic limestone, 1 pound of rock phosphate or colloidal phosphate, ...

Add ½ cup each per every 8 gallons of mix:
½ cup Bone Meal(Phosphorous)
½ cup Dolomitic Limestone (Raises soil pH and provides calcium and magnesium)
½ cup Blood Meal or Soybean Meal or Dried Kelp Powder (Nitrogen) ...
