I was never much of a rose gardener, but some of the new introductions have totally won me over. I've waxed on about my Flower Carpet roses.
drift

Apricot Drift® Rose
(Rosa 'Meimirrot')
A pretty groundcover rose, Apricot Drift(®) offers a fresh hue to the garden. Double apricot-colored flowers form in spring and display their bright shade all season.
Drifts make very natural-looking beds. Informal teardrop shapes work best. If you have uneven ground simply outline the high or low lying contours and use those shapes for your drifts.
Drifts of white in a red-hot border lower the temperature. A red-and-white scheme strikes a balance between excitement and relaxation. For a fresh-faced look, pair yellow or orange flowers with white blooms that have warm-color centers.
Drifts of colorful flowers produce a beautiful garden and feed the widest range of pollinators.
Asclepias tuberosa is only one of the many milkweeds to attract pollinators.

DWARF: Shorter than its normal growth. Each family of plants has a height recommendation for dwarfness.
A drift of monkshood can be as much a part of a wildflower meadow in your garden as they are in their native Europe and Asia. Lobelia cardinalis likes similar conditions, and the spikes of bright red flowers are a lovely contrast.
'Spindrift' bears semi-double pale blue with cream centers.
'Turkish Delight' bears semi-double pink-violet blooms with white centers.

Place drifts or scattered clusters between clumps of perennials or use bulbs to skirt the bases of shrubs.
Avoid drift so you don't damage desired plants.
Avoid skips and double ups. Many professional sprayers use a dye (green, blue or red) so they can tell where they have been.
Dramatic drifts of new cultivars of narcissus, tulips, ornamental onions, fritillaries and lilies were planted to ensure a constant color show from early spring well into fall.
Designing Drifts
When you find a plant species that thrives in your wet, shady spot, add several of them. Many plants adapted to moist shade are very willing, on their own, to spread into lush colonies. Give them free reign to grow into drifts.
Clematis 'Snowdrift'

Abundant, fragrant 2-3 inch flowers in March through April. Attractive, evergreen covering for fences and arbors. Clematis like their heads in the sun and their roots in the shade.
I like the way drifts of astilbes create ribbons of color in my mixed borders. Swathes of white, pink, red and purple astilbes make my shade gardens come alive in the summer.
To reduce 2,4-D drift injury, reduce the use of this herbicide during the hottest summer months. If you must use this herbicide, apply it during cool evening hours and follow the label directions carefully.
Prairie-Style Drift Planting
Interlocking sausage-shaped drifts of plants give a less contrived look. Make the shapes a good size for maximum impact (Image 1).
Plant in clumps and drifts rather than long straight rows. Rows only suit large scale parks or farms. When planting I find it easiest to first remove the soil from the plot I`m planting up and place all the bulbs in first before back filling.
Plant different varieties in large masses or drifts for reliable color and texture in the garden.
Brighten shady garden areas with gold or variegated hostas.
Use hostas to bridge gaps in seasonal perennial bloom.
Drifting chemicals can cause eye and skin irritation, and sometimes burns. Cover your eyes with protective lenses and the rest of yourself with long, loose-fitting clothing to maximize protection against caustic lawn chemicals.
Timing is everything.
The path under my feet was composed of small river stones of various subtle shades of blue, grey, and red while the border between the path and the flower bed was constructed of large, almost white, driftwood logs.
They grow as 'terrestrials' - in the ground - often appearing in vast drifts in native woodlands in winter and early spring. They grow from a tuber over a period of 18 months, appearing first as a mat of leaves, then stems that elongate into flowers.
Sprays should be adjusted so that the droplet size is large because fine drift more easily. Use lower pressures or sprayers with large orifice nozzles that increase the average droplet size. Mind wind movement and chose calm days for spraying.
My thoughts drift to my courting days. I recall the hot demandingness, the all-consuming fire that allowed this crinkly-leafed, indomitable plant to dig itself in.
This garden has been transformed into a seashore scene, even featuring a pebble beach, complete with driftwood and fisherman's dinghy. A paved patio has been has been enclosed in colourful bands of marigolds, lavender and marram grasses.
While many Air Plants are quite easy to grow indoors in terrariums, on driftwood, or on ornamental rock displays, they must be handled extremely carefully to avoid rubbing of the scaly structures on their leaves.
You can grow herbs indoors this winter and add that just-picked taste to your meals, even when snow is drifting up against the kitchen window. You don't even need special lights—herbs fare just fine in a bright window.
Don't spray on a windy day when chemicals may drift onto your desired plants. Spray the weeds close to the base and make sure the liquid stays on the leaves of the weed in order to be effective.
For fall color, Hutton recommends planting the new Drift groundcover roses. Continuously blooming from spring to early frost, they are naturally dwarf, with very attractive foliage. Just remember to give them plenty of water and lots of sun.
A sure autumn marker is the grapevine: its drifts of green grapes gradually turn purple as the first frost turns their leaves yellow.

Whatever you do, try to plant in drifts - that way even if your spring bulb display has spaces in it, there will be enough areas filled with bright color to make an impact.
The panoramic garden
As with any design, don't use single plants when you can use drifts and sweeps of plants instead. The eye will carry easily over large groups; it stutter-steps when the plant material changes every six inches.

Lavender has a pleasing and distinctive fragrance...subtly sweet with an herbaceous undertone. As it evaporates, its delicate scent drifts through the air as a subtle reminder of its presence.

This hormonal-type herbicide kills broad-leaved weeds but does not injure grasses. Slight spray drift or 2,4-D residue remaining in a sprayer can seriously damage or kill trees and berries. Grapes are especially vulnerable to 2,4-D.

Uniform coverage of foliage is difficult to achieve with many dusters. Dusts are more subject to drift than liquid formulations due to their lightweight and poor sticking qualities. Many dust formulations are sold in dispenser canisters.
Wildly popular, this hardy perennial is now grown around the world. In the flower garden or herb garden, Lavender is attractive with it's grayish foliage. When in bloom, the Lavender scent drifts pleasantly across the yard.
herbicides often cause temporary injury whereas preemergence herbicides will not injure established turfgrasses.
Preemergence herbicides are typically available as granules. Granules are easier to spread and not susceptible vapor drift.
