Either way, the epiphytes cause no harm to the host plant at all, and it is adviced to keep them on a tree, as they are a nice addition to the landscape, and often pretty ones if you look closer...

The aerial roots of air plants or epiphytes such as some orchids not only attach the plant to its host but also absorb water from the air. Many aerial roots are fleshy or semi-fleshy, functioning as reservoirs for water storage.
