Evapotranspiration-The combined evaporation of water from soil, water, and plant surfaces, and the transpiration of water through the plant and out through leaf stomata.

EVAPOTRANSPIRATION -- Abreviated as ET, it is the amount of water that transpires through a plants leaves combined with the amount that evaporates from the soil in which it is growing.

evapotranspiration. The loss of soil moisture due to evaporation from the soil surface and transpiration by plants.

EVAPOTRANSPIRATION: The amount of water that transpires through a plants leaves combined with the amount that evaporates from the soil in which it is growing. Used as a guide for how much water a plant needs per day/week/year.

In addition, through a process known as evapotranspiration, grass and other plants warmed by the sun give up water which then evaporates to cool not only the plant itself but the surrounding area as well.

Plant windbreaks to reduce evapotranspiration.
Water plants early in the morning to promote deep root growth. Water thoroughly when you water; don't simply wet the surface.
