Fall Flowering Bulbs South
Some fall-flowering bulbs are treated like tender bulbs in the south. These may include crinum, canna, and exotic dahlia varieties.

In all but the warmest planting zones, many summer and fall flowering bulbs will not survive a cold winter. These 'tender bulbs' can't handle the cold and need to be dug up, stored, and protected in colder climates.

As a general rule, spring flowering bulbs (daffodils and tulips) should be planted in fall and late Summer / Fall flowering bulbs (Liatris) should be planted in the Spring.
