When choosing spring-flowering shrubs, gardeners should consider the flowering period as well as other characteristics.

 


To extend the flowering period of mature plants, cut off faded flower heads.

To prolong the flowering period of house plants, water and deadhead them regularly. After flowering, stand azaleas and hydrangeas in an open area of the garden, plunging pots in the soil to their rims.

For the maximum flowering period, select varieties that bloom early in the season, halfway through and late in the season to lengthen a show of each of your favorite plants - or choose plants that bloom all season long.

2. Just before the flowering period for (flowers and vegetables), switch to a fertilizer high in Potassium. Potassium promotes big blooms, and blooming in general.

Marina suggests choosing a large range of nectar-rich species in order to maximise the flowering period and food available to visiting insects.

The pink to purple spires of flowers are borne on erect stems, up to 5ft tall. One of my favourites for its long flowering period and because it is so troublefree.

They are best used during a plant's flowering period. Powder and capsules come in both quick-release and slow-release form. Slow-release fertilizer can take up to 12 months to fully absorb into the soil.
