Forewing

Gardening ForcingForked

The forewing is narrow and somewhat triangular; the hind wing is broad and fringed on the trailing edge. The overall color of the moth is a light grayish brown.

The forewings (elytra) of the beetle have four pairs of ridges, but because the middle humps are the largest, only two parallel ridges are apparent. Eggs are pearly white.

The body is tannish-brown with the longitudinal forewing's outer margins edged in a pea green color. The forelegs are modified to close like a knife blade back against its handle (pocket knife-like).

orthoptera An insect family made up of species having a tough, leathery shell, membranous hindwings, and straight forewings. Includes locusts, crickets, grasshoppers, and katydids.
