Because they take longer to mature and prefer even warmer soil (about 65 degrees), lima beans may not have enough frost-free days for gardeners in the far north, unless you try starting them indoors.

 


Water them on frost-free days. And if you use frost-sensitive containers (such as terra-cotta or glazed pots), insulate the sides with bubble wrap or burlap. Spring is the best time for planting.
